The Millicent Rogers Museum’s Collaborative Masterwork will be unveiled at the conclusion of the Scrollathon and will be on view during the opening of the annual Taos Pueblo Artists Winter Showcase on Friday, March 14, 2025.
If you would like to participate in the Scollathon on March 12, 2025, please contact karen@millicentrogers.org for more information and participation guidelines. What is Scrollathon?
- Scrollathon is a multimedia, collaborative art project uniting people from diverse backgrounds and communities throughout the country. It grew out of Steven and William Ladd’s belief in the creative capacity of every human being combined with the awesome power of community.
- Scrollathon demonstrates how contemporary art creates a lens for personal storytelling.
- During a Scrollathon, each participant uses a personal experience or memory to create a textile work of art, titled and stored in a Souvenir Tin.
- Scrollathon participants can choose to share their stories and the titles of their artwork with their peers.
- After making their own scroll artwork, participants then come together to contribute to a Collaborative Masterwork — a legacy artwork for their state for America’s 250th birthday.
- Since 2006, Scrollathon has served over 10,000 people by partnering with hundreds of stakeholders and institutions across the country.
What is the National Scrollathon?
- The National Scrollathon brings together the creative expressions of people from diverse American communities in a collaborative, multidimensional exhibit uniting America for its 250th birthday in 2026, the Semiquincentennial. Using textiles, participants from all 50 states, 5 U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C. will create artworks of profound beauty and meaning.
- The National Scrollathon kicked off at the Dallas Museum of Art in 2019.
- The program encourages active participation in shaping the future of America and fosters unity. It amplifies the stories of the rich variety of American communities, some of which are often overlooked and all of which comprise our national identity.
- 56 anticipated Scrollathons will take place from 2019-2026, directly engaging up to 500 participants in every location.
