A Feast for the Eyes
Rio Grande Blankets from the Collection
When the Millicent Rogers Museum was founded in 1956, the core of the museum collection was a group of one hundred and twelve textiles originally collected by Millicent Rogers. Twenty of those textiles were Hispanic Rio Grande weavings. Some of the weavings that began the museum collection are in this exhibition.
There was a variety of woven goods produced for trade, and the single item in greatest demand was what came to be called the Rio Grande blanket, a general term encompassing the entire weaving tradition of Hispanic New Mexico.
